Spiritual Awakening: What Is a Spiritual Awakening?

Updated: Oct 17, 2022

What does spiritual awakening mean, and what does it entail?

Spiritual awakening can be one of life's most beautiful and confusing experiences. It's a call to higher consciousness and deeper mental awareness. The spiritual awakening process is about personal transformation and worldview growth. Spiritual awakening will affect everything - your heart, body, and energy.

From the mind's perspective, a spiritual awakening offers a clearer understanding of what is real and what is an illusion. You discover that many things are made up by society. Spiritual awakening helps us see the true reality of a society that decided that some things were important and others were not, forced us into a specific way of living, etc. Spiritual awakening is also about letting go of many false beliefs and illusions about who you thought you were and what you thought life should be.

Spiritual awakenings happen at the least expected times. At first, they can be frightening; they can push us to think about questions like, Who I am, and why I am here? It's impossible to predict them or plan to have one. In the Western world, the spiritual awakening was popularized by psychiatrist Carl Jung. He described the process of spiritual awakening as coming back to the original higher state of consciousness.

Spiritual awakening can be triggered by anything, from a common event to a completely life-altering situation. Common causes include life-changing events like a car accident, losing your job, moving away from a home, breakup, etc. Spiritual awakening can also be triggered by people who open a spiritual "door" for you, like a soul mate or twin flame. Mainly they are triggered by traumas or essential life changes like life-threatening illness, near-death experiences, war, pandemics, depression, or mental health crises.

Awakenings change us from within. Spiritual awakening can change our habits, thoughts, behaviors, tastes, way of breathing, walking, etc. The experiences you get during awakening are not the same for everyone. Depends on the type of awakening, your own path, karma, and the person's uniqueness. The discoveries through spiritual awakening can lead people to stop smoking, quit drinking alcohol, etc.

Unhappiness and the hunger for answers force you to search more deeply and push you closer to the truth. We are spiritual beings on planet earth, having physical experiences. Any single thing that happens to us, whether good or bad, serves this purpose. Spiritual awakening changes the way you interact and respond to life. Your path and spiritual awakening are individual. There is no one better than the other.
